Need an eBook Cover or Text Layout?
Kindle | ePub | eReader
There are different approaches to creating your eBook, depending on various factors.
For example, you may have an existing book in print that you’d now like “converted” to an eBook format.
Another factor is where you intend to distribute your eBook, as different distributors have different eBook format requirements. For example, Amazon uses the Kindle format, while Barnes & Noble has recently adopted the Palm OS eReader format.
In some cases you may already have a book cover design, which you had done for a hardcopy press run. With minor modifications, we can use that book cover design for your eBook.
When it comes to converting a book interior layout done for a hardcopy press run, the process is seldom as simple as converting a book cover. Chances are your print-ready PDF contains many formatting elements that are not compatible with your target eBook format. This is because eBook technology is still very new and the reading devices on today’s market can only process very basic formatting. For example, non-center images with wrapped text, tables, break-out boxes, headers, footers, page numbers and sidebars will all need to be removed from the print-ready layout before converting the file to eBook format. Additionally, we’ll need to create a hyperlinked table of contents (TOC) for the eBook and the original TOC will need to be removed as it no longer applies.
We are experienced in the major eBook formats as well as the various techniques for converting Word Docs, PDFs, and Print-Ready source files to eBook format.
As always, it’s best to follow our book cover guidelines and book layout guidelines to save time and expense.
If you start your eBook from scratch, follow the above guidelines, and use only occasional bold and italic formatting with no fancy layout elements, and you create this in Word or OpenOffice, then this is the simplest type of conversion to do. So, if you haven’t started your project yet, and you know it’s going straight to eBook, then the foregoing is a very good strategy to employ.
Convert Existing eBook to Other Formats
If you have an existing eBook, such as an ePub file, then in many cases we can convert it to other formats for you without having to redo the layout.
